Are you aware of the private fire fighting businesses that used to exist in the US? There was one in Billings Montana. And there was another, more famous one, in, if I recall correctly, Scottsdale Arizona.

Craig, I have heard about some of them, like Rural/Metro from Scottsdale, mentioned in this FEE article: https://fee.org/articles/fire-fighting-for-profit/
The idea for this story germinated during an argument on G+ about the private provision of “essential government services,” and how private firefighting companies would not only be forced to be more economical, but more innovative in the way they fight fires, such as by using drones. I talk about this a little bit during our interview with Anthony Caprio’s (@ancap) “Free Cities Podcast” (http://www.freecitiespodcast.com/). We talk about this, subscription patrol services (private policing), private law, and private lifesaving services quite a bit on the episode.
